OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Oak Ridge Schools continues to demonstrate strong academic performance and sustained student growth, according to 2025–26 Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) results. The latest data show Oak Ridge Schools outperforming Tennessee in every major subject area, while five-year trends demonstrate significant gains in student proficiency.

Districtwide, 50.8% of Oak Ridge students were proficient in English Language Arts (ELA) in 2025–26, compared with 42.3% statewide. In math, 52.3% of Oak Ridge students were proficient compared with 40.9% across Tennessee. Oak Ridge also outperformed the state in science, 59.6% to 47.3%, and social studies, 63.0% to 50.0%.
While the latest results provide reason to celebrate, the district’s five-year trajectory tells an even stronger story. Since 2021–22, Oak Ridge Schools has increased proficiency by, on average, by nearly 7.5 percentage points, experiencing the most growth in district-wide Math.
“These results are a testament to the sustained work happening in classrooms across Oak Ridge Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Bruce Borchers. “We are proud to outperform the state, but what is especially encouraging is the progress our students have made over time. Our teachers, staff members, students and families have remained focused on continuous improvement, and that commitment is reflected in the five-year trends.”
School Specific Results
Linden Elementary continued its recent upward trajectory, reaching its highest ELA (69.8%), Math (70.3%) and Science (72.1%) proficiency in the last five years. Willow Brook Elementary recorded one of the district’s strongest year-over-year improvements, including a 12-percentage point increase in Math proficiency. Glenwood and Woodland elementary schools continued to outperform state averages, with Glenwood exceeding the state by more than 20 percentage points in Math, and Woodland reaching its highest ELA proficiency (50.8%) in the last five years.
At the secondary level, Jefferson Middle School reached a five-year high in ELA proficiency (48.4%), while 95.7% of Jefferson eighth graders taking Algebra I were proficient. Robertsville Middle School has increased proficiency in every tested category since 2021-22, including an eight-percentage point growth in Math proficiency during that period. Oak Ridge High School remained above Tennessee proficiency rates across all tested subjects and has more than doubled student proficiency in Algebra I over the last five years.
“Continuous improvement means celebrating success while remaining focused on where we can get better,” Borchers said. “Our goal isn’t simply to outperform an average. We want every student, in every classroom and every school, to have access to the instruction and support that will help them reach their highest potential. These results give us a strong foundation as we continue working toward our vision of every student being prepared for college, career and life success.”
