Oak Ridge Schools offers life insurance provided by USAble Life to all full-time staff.
Basic Life Insurance
The system provides $50,000 of basic term life insurance at no cost for all full-time employees. Basic life coverage will be effective the 1st day of the month following the hire date.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Eligible employees may purchase additional supplemental life with AD&D included in coverage amounts from $10,000 to $250,000 in $10,000 increments at initial enrollment. No health questions are required on coverage amounts up to $130,000. To purchase additional life insurance for amounts above $130,000, complete the “Evidence of Insurability” and the “Authorization for Release of Medical Records” forms and return them to Human Resources as well. Supplemental coverage up to $130,000 will be effective the 1st day of the month following the 30 day enrollment period. Supplemental coverage above $130,000 will be effective upon underwriting approval.
Additional benefits for all life coverage include: accelerated death benefits rider, identity theft resources, online will preparation and travel and accident coverage.
Open enrollment will be held each May for the upcoming fiscal year. Any changes to supplemental insurance must go through medical underwriting during this time.
