The 2019 textbook adoption took place in the areas of social studies, world languages, and career and technical education for implementation starting in the 2019-2020 school year. The textbook committees were composed of teachers and parents. Each committee member took an oath that they did not have any financial interest in any publisher. The committees based their reviews on the state of Tennessee’s approved adoption list. Committee members considered the state advisory panelists’ reviews, but they also worked together to conduct their own reviews of the materials based on the state-provided rubrics. Committee members came to common agreements on textbook selection by grade band and by content area. In most cases, teachers selected a blend of print and digital resources. In the case of the world languages, committee members requested waivers for French and German. The following selections were approved by the Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education on March 25, 2019.
