Oak Ridge Schools Social Media Community Guidelines

Social media has become an increasingly important communication tool for sharing information with the Oak Ridge Schools community.

Users and visitors to the District’s social media sites are notified that the purpose of the site is to help with communication between the District and the public. As a public school district, we consider it part of our educational mission to encourage respectful, civic discourse.

As such, social media posts or comments with any of the following content are not allowed on District social media and will be immediately removed. Repeated violations could get a user banned from commenting or posting on our sites.

Comments or posts shall not:

  • Contain a personal attack, insult (examples include but are not limited to true threats, defamation and harassment)
  • Contain a racial slur or any other derogatory term.
  • Be off-topic and unrelated to the original post
  • Use foul language, be sexually explicit, or include masked profanity
  • Promote hate or discrimination of any kind
  • Be blatant spam, including advertising commercial services or products
  • Encourage illegal activity or violate any local, state or federal law
  • Contain private or personal information
  • Compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems
  • Violate legal ownership such as copyright or trademark
  • Include comments from fake accounts.
  • Solicitations, advertisements or endorsements for or against any political campaigns, candidates or ballot measures.
