Thanks to the work of Safe Kids, the Oak Ridge Police Department, and the Oak Ridge Fire Department, our preschool students are now riding safely on the playground with new helmets. Tribby Kelly, our compliance monitor at Oak Ridge Preschool stated that because our students ride tricycles and other wheeled toys at school, they are now required to wear helmets while riding. As students had helmet fittings, the officers were encouraging them to repeat the simple words, ā€œWear it!ā€ Safe Kids of the Greater Knox Area is led by East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
