STUDENT INFO

 REGISTRATION IS THIS WEEK FOR THE AMC 10 AND AMC 12 EXAMS. The fee is $2.00 cash. You will need to register with your Math teacher. The exams will take place on January 30 and February 5, 2020 and are qualifying exams for the State Math Exam in April. (Tu-F) J. Zimprich

 

NHS Tutoring—Cool nights, comfortable days—sounds like fall has finally arrived along with Term 2. Celebrate by joining Anna Mackay and Julia Steed in the Counseling Center on Tuesday, October 16 between 3:15-3:50 for NHS Tutoring. (Tu) A. Etheridge

 

ACT Prep: If you took the practice Reading and English tests before the break, come back on Wednesday, October 16, to get your scores and to go over the most troublesome types of questions so that you can raise your scores on the real test. We will meet in LC 327 from 2:00-3:00, although it’s possible that we could go a bit longer. If you cannot attend, you may come by Coach Etheridge’s room (CS336) before school or during lunch to check your scores. (W) A. Etheridge

 

Don’t wait until basketball season to get your Student Athletic Pass. You’re still saving lots of $ and won’t have to wait in line to any regular season home athletic event this year?  (This includes Volleyball, Soccer (Boys & Girls) – Basketball – Baseball – Softball & Track)   . You can do that by purchasing an All-Sports Athletic Pass for ONLY $55.00. You can purchase your SAP this week until Thursday afternoon in the Main Office. Jostens will return to the Main Lobby and Arena Concessions’ Kiosk on Thursday, October 17, during lunch to collect orders for class rings. Any student at ORHS may order a class ring. $60 deposit is required. Extra packets are available in CS347.  (10/15) – T. Ledden

UNC-CHAPEL HILL AND DUKE – announces the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program. This is among the most highly sought after merit scholarships in the country.  It combines extraordinary resources at Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill.   The program proves 4 years of tuition, room and board and mandatory fees, 3 fully-funded summer experiences, funding for conferences and seminars and unique access to the academic and extracurricular offerings on both campuses as well as four years of dedicated leadership development programming.  The application deadline is November 15, 2019 for all materials and is independent of the admissions deadlines for UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University.  You do not need to be nominated for this program.  For more information visit:  www.robertsonscholars.org and robertsonscholars.embark.com/apply/highschool.  (Tu, Th 10.17)

 

Today, Tuesday, October 15th, the counselors will be visiting all the freshmen Guided Studies classes to review graduation requirements and provide an overview of counseling resources. (Tu 10.15) – A. Campbell

 

The PSAT, for all 10th and 11th graders that registered for the test, will be given 1st – 5th periods on Wednesday, October 16th for those students that registered for the exam. Lunch will be served 6th period  and students will be expected to be in 7th and 8th periods. Testing locations will be posted around the school by Tuesday, October 15th.  All other students will follow their regular Wednesday schedule. (W 10.16) – A. Campbell

ATHLETICS THIS WEEK

 

It’s playoff time in Oak Ridge!  That’s right, the volleyball team is hosting the Region round tonight at 5:30!  All Oak Ridge Schools students and staff get in for free with your badge!  And students with badges get a free hot dog! Tonight at 5:30 in the Arena vs. Farragut! Come on out! (Tu) – D. Kolodney

 

After watching Volleyball come on out and support the Lady Wildcat Soccer Team as they take on Halls here @ ORHS @ 7:00 tonight in the first round of the District Tournament.
