Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Have you registered to vote yet?  If you’re 18 years old and answered no then this is the time to do it!  There are 3 big elections days coming up this year – May 1, August 2, and November 6.  The elections on those dates included Governor, Senator, seats on the Oak Ridge Board of Education and City Council, and many more.  Voting is not only your right, but also your civic duty.  Want to have a say in the direction of your town, state, and country?  Then vote!  To register go to ovr.govote.tn.gov. If your grades are going up and down like the temperatures in April, even them out toward the high side with free NHS tutoring from Ruth Hammond and Rachel Wiley from 3:15 to 3:50 Thursday in the Counselling Center. (4/11-4/12) – K. Senter

Congratulations to Jessica Ammendolia and Jacob Hattaway, Creative Writing students who were winners in the Tennessee Mountain Writers student writing contests. Jessica won first place in Student Poetry for her poem “The Butcher”; Jacob won an Honorable Mention for his story “The Trials.” (4/12) – J. Sasser

There will be a 1 day Prom ticket pre-order sale this Friday during 5th period for those who may have missed the sale opportunity earlier.  This will be the LAST TIME to get your tickets at $30 for singles and $60 for couples. After this tickets will be on sale April 24th-26th for $40 for singles and $80 for couples. Remember if your date does not currently attend ORHS, then you must turn in a Guest Application form to Student Services. Please see Ms. Eidam in LC 312 3 if you have any questions.  (4/12-4/13) – S. COUNSELING INFO

Systers invites the female STEM students of ORHS school to attend Little Systers 2018 on April 14th. This event will inform and inspire high school females about such possibilities for their futures through positive, firsthand experiences. Systers is afforded the opportunity to continue to inspire young women to pursue science, technology, and engineering through Little Systers. This event is limited to 90 student participants, so students should be sure to register soon! This event is free and lunch will be provided. The Soccer Club of Oak Ridge is hosting their local tournament the weekend of April 14th-15th. They are looking for volunteers to help with various duties over that weekend. Please contact them if you need TNPromise Volunteer hours. (4/4, 4/6, 4/10, 4/12) – B. Ottinger

Small Talk will meet in Dr. Colquitt’s room, CS 235, after school on Thursday, April 12. Our guest speaker will be Miss Sarah Lucchesi and she will have activities and lead a discussion on time management and how it impacts college success. Prepare to stay until 4 pm. (4/11-4/12) – R. Colquitt

Please join Fellowship of Christian Athletes this Friday at 7am at Providence House, across the street from Wildcat Arena, for food, fellowship, and music from Young Life’s Lee Younger.  All students are welcome to come grab breakfast and some good news. (4/11-4/12) – R. Byrd

Reminder, Seniors- Graduation Celebration forms are available in Student Services. Those seniors who have already signed up for Graduation Celebration and If you would like to learn how to Scuba Dive, there are now the Scuba Diving permission forms in Student Services. (Th 4.12) C. Wilson

Attention seniors! Graduation is coming up and we still have a few more fun things planned before we leave. The senior slideshow is coming up so dig through those old scrapbooks and baby boxes for all of those adorable elementary and middle school pictures. We would love to use group photos of you with your fellow classmates from sporting events, school parties, and more! Are you in need of volunteer hours?   Join us at the Oak Ridge Schools – City of Oak Ridge Wellness Fair on May 16th at the Civic Center!  The fair begins at noon and ends at 4:00pm.   You can earn volunteer hours by helping vendors set up, working the registration desk, etc.  You can start after school is dismissed on Wednesday, May 16th and work as long as you like!  If you are interested, please email CSH Coordinator Jen Laurendine at jllaurendine@ortn.edu.  (4/9-5/16 T/Th) – J.
