Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Students and staff are reminded to NOT PARK on the striped area of the Turnpike parking lot. This area is used for band practice in the afternoons during school hours.  Students/staff who are parked in that area will be asked to move their cars. (Tu,Th) – M. Hughey

Seniors, are you stressing about the College Application Process? Not sure how to use Naviance? Should you apply via Common Application or directly to the college? How do you request a transcript? How do you request a letter of recommendation? All of these questions and more will be answered at SENIOR SEMINAR. Senior Seminars will take place for students during English classes on Thursday, September 7th. Follow up sessions for both students and parents will be held in the ORHS Auditorium on September 7th from 6 – 7:30 and on Sunday, September 10th from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. (T, Th – 9/7) – B. Ottinger

Attention students who ride Bus 351: due to a shortage of drivers, bus 351 will run as a second route every Wednesday until further notice. The bus should pick up at approximately 2:20 pm. Students should wait for the bus at the top tier of the food court. (8/24 – 8/29, T) – A. Roberts

Auditions for the Fall Play “Dearly Departed” are this coming Monday and Tuesday in the ORPAC.  If you are interested in auditioning, go to Mr. Moreno’s class (LC 215) and pick up an audition form that must be partly filled out by your teachers. (8/24-8/25) – V. Moreno

CLUB & ORGANIZATION INFO

International Friends will meet on August 24th at 3:15 in room LC 335.  Come learn more about International Friends while we sample cookies from around the world.  We will provide a tentative overview of the club activities for the year.  Additionally, applications for club officers will be available.  This club is open to anyone who wants to learn explore different cultures, countries, and customs.  (8/22-8/24) – J. NHS offers free tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15 to 3:50 in the Counseling Center. Thursday’s tutors are Radha Awasthi and Olivia Pinkham. (8/23-8/24) – K. Senter

Are you what you eat? Join Philosophy Club after school on Friday in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for a discussion on the ethics, aesthetics, and cultural importance of food production and consumption. (8/24-8/25) – A. Pickering

Do you ever watch Jeopardy and think, I would be good at this?  Do you like challenging your classmates with “who can solve this problem faster?”  This week in Math Club we will practice for some of the upcoming math competitions by practicing Math Bowl.  Problems for Math Bowl are based on Algebra 1 through Calculus, so anyone can participate.  For those of you who don’t want to try to beat the buzzer, a fun round of Algebra 24 Game will be taking place.  Come and enjoy some time with some crazy folks who make math fun!  As always, refreshments will be served.  Mrs. Mullins room, CS231, after school until 4. If you wish ORHS could transform for at least a day into Hogwarts, or that you could take just one flight on a Hippogriff, or if possessing that Invisibility Cloak haunts your dreams, you can come to our Harry Potter Club to discuss all of those frustrations and hang-ups with like-minded Muggles.  We will meet for our first monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 28, immediately after school until 4, in Mrs. Mullins’ room, CS231.  There will be snacks, so please come and join our own version of the D.A.  (8/24, 8/25, 8/28) – K. ATHLETICS

STUDENTS –  How would you like to not have to wait in line for any home athletic event (football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, track, etc.).  Plus, you can save over $150!  You can purchase a Student Athletic pass for $55 and never have to buy another ticket again! (TSSAA playoff games excluded).  Come by the Main Office before or after school from Monday to Thursday to purchase your pass. PASSES WILL NOT BE SOLD ON FRIDAYS. (T, Th)
