Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Due to an increase in enrollment, bus routes have been changed.  New routes have been posted by the bus loop doors in addition to being available on the Oak Ridge Schools website under “Transportation”.  These changes took affect Monday, so please be aware of change in your bus information.  (8/14-8/16) – A. CLUB & ORGANIZATION INFO

The first meeting of the Senior Steering Committee for the class of 2018 will be held Wednesday, August 16th during 5th period. All meetings will be in Mrs. Hondorf’s room, LC210 and will start promptly at the beginning of 5th period. If you applied for Senior Steering check the board outside Mrs. Hondorf and Mrs. Sobek’s rooms to see if you were selected. The Chess Club will be having it’s first meeting of the year this Thursday, August 17th at 3:15 in Mrs. Nelson’s room LC 224. (8/15-8/17) – T. Nelson

They’re BACK!  The National Honor Society is again offering their free tutoring services in all subjects every Tuesday and Thursday in the counseling center from 3:15-3:50.  Thursday’s tutors are Emily Brewer and Victoria Wilson.  (8/16-17) – L. Bailey

COUNSELING

Would you like to be considered for a nomination to participate in Vanderbilt’s Vandy Fan for a Day program? If you fall into one of the following categories see Mrs. Morris in the Counseling Office:

*Students who will be first-generation college matriculants

*Students participating in free or reduced lunch programs

*Students receiving significant financial aid or need-based scholarships

The TN Promise Scholarship application is now open for Class of 2018 completion! Seniors can apply online at www.tnpromise.gov . The application deadline is November 1, 2017. It is important to note that a student must create a TSAC student portal prior to complete the scholarship application. Simply creating a TSAC student portal and not completing an application will not register a student for TN Promise. Keep in mind that many dual-enrolled student already have a TSAC student portal created. A dual-enrolled student must log in with his/her username and password and submit the TN Promise scholarship application. (M – 11/1) – B. Ottinger

Reminder:  Thursday, August 17th will be the last day to register for the PSAT (Practice SAT) Test. Counselors will be stationed at a table at the top of the food court near the grand staircase to help students complete their registration.  The cost is $16 payable by cash or check made out to ORHS. This is an optional test for 10th and 11th graders, but all are encouraged to participate.(8/16) – B. Ottinger

ATHLETICS

Conditioning for the 2018 ORHS Track and Field Team begins on Monday, September 11, at the Ben Martin Track at 3:30 PM. If you think that you may want to run, jump, or throw for ORHS, come out and get in track and field shape during the fall. You must have a current athletic physical on file with Terra Davenport, our trainer, before you may participate in any workouts. If you’re playing football, volleyball, girls’ soccer, cross country, or golf, you need to wait on track conditioning until your season is over with.
