Jazz and more Jazz! The Knoxville Jazz Orchestra is performing this Friday, May 12th, at 7:30 PM in the ORHS PAC. Our own JazzKats will be the opening act! Special guest trumpeter Jim Hynes – locally of Bud’s Coffee Shop and an internationally renowned trumpeter – will step in with the JazzKats and the KJO. Our own Band Director, Michael Spirko, is a member of the KJO as well! Big evening of FREE outstanding jazz for Oak Ridge! Come Enjoy! M. Hughey

Congratulations to Gus Morrill and Matthew Holliman, this year’s recipients of the two $500 ORHS National Honor Society Scholarships. Gus will be continuing his education this fall at Middlebury College majoring in English and journalism. Matthew will be attending The University of Chicago. His major is undecided.

 

Come be a part of the Friday night pageantry at Blankenship Field as a member of the ORHS Band Color Guard. No experience is necessary! Attend the Color Guard Clinic/Audition starting this Saturday, May 13th, from 2-6pm in the ORHS Band Room. Flags, Football and Fun! All students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate. Attention all Convocation ushers! There will be a mandatory meeting in the Auditorium after school TODAY, Thursday, May 11th with Madame Barry to explain and assign roles, and practice for the upcoming senior practice and actual ceremony. The Driving Center is now registering for summer, fall and winter break classes.  Driver Education classes include 30 hours of classroom instruction, along with six individual driving lessons.  Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certificate, which often reduces car insurance by as much as 25%.  Courses are taught in a fun and engaging way here in Oak Ridge at 130 Bus Terminal Road.  Visit www.thedrivingcenter.org for details or call 865-482-6700. Seniors- Are you interested in registering to vote? The Oak Ridge Chapter of the League of Women Voters will be at the senior breakfast to help you sign up for this patriotic privilege. The League is non-partisan, so you will not be pressured to discuss political parties. You will only need to know your social security number and city and state you were born in to sign up. So, stop by their table on May 15th and make it easy on yourself to get registered. If you have any questions about this, please see Mrs. Perry in LC330.

ATHLETICS

 

We are having 2 girls soccer interest meetings for the upcoming 2023 summer/fall season in May.  For all current 9-11 graders if you plan to play this fall, I need you to attend at least 1 meeting. The meetings will be right after school on Friday May 12 at 3:30 pm and Tuesday May 16 at 3:30 pm.  These meetings will be in the food court upper level.
