“Words—so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them”—Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Consider this observation by Nathaniel Hawthorne and his understanding of the power of words. And in a well written essay, discuss the power of the written word and an experience when you observed directly “how potent for good and evil” words can be. Include in your 400 to 600-word response why you consider learning to write effectively an essential skill for your success in college, career, and life.
