STUDENT INFO

Winter Formal tickets are now on sale! Tickets will be sold during lunch at the top of the cafeteria and in the Wildcat Arena for $15/each. Tickets are expected to sell out, so buy quickly! All proceeds will be put toward Second Harvest of Anderson County. (W,F,M – 1.31) –  A. Wagner

ACT Practice: The Oak Ridge Chapter of the NAACP and Oak Ridge Schools are co-sponsoring Saturday ACT Prep sessions at the Scarboro Center on Saturday, January 25, and Saturday, February 1, from 8:00 AM-11:30 AM. On the 25th we will focus on the English and Reading tests, and on the 1st we’ll focus on the Math and Science tests.  Instructors include Ms. Estep, Ms. Hale, Ms. Vaughan, Ms. Hondorf, Dr. Thomas, and Coach Etheridge. If you’d like to participate, please email Coach Etheridge (Aetheridge@ortn.edu) and indicate the date(s) that interest you. In particular we’d like to see students who cannot attend our Wednesday afternoon sessions, but all students are welcome. We’ll have door prizes and lunch. (W,F 1.31) – A. Etheridge

ACT Prep: On Wednesday, January 29, Coach Etheridge and Ms. Flanders will lead a session focused on the ACT English test from 2:00-3:30 in the Amphitheatre. All ORHS students are welcome, although we’d really like to see lots of juniors, who will take The Real Thing on March 31. Hey students! Do you want to be part of the best yearbook in the state during the 2020-2021 school year? If so, pick up an application from your English teacher or guidance counselor. Remember that yearbook is a privilege and that only students selected by Ms. Hale through the application process will be invited to join. (M) – R. Hale

The City Clerk is requesting student applicants for the Student Representative on the Environmental Quality Advisory Board.  The only requirements for the student is that they are an Oak Ridge resident and enrolled in school.  Here is the link to the City Boards and Commissions page: http://oakridgetn.gov/department/CityClerk/Boards-%26-Commissions/Elections   Applications will be accepted until January 24, 2020.  Members will be appointed the board at the February 2020 regular meeting.  (MWF,1/15-1/24) – S. CLUB INFO

 

If you are skiing or snowboarding with us this Saturday at Sugar Mountain, NC be at the school no later than 4:15 AM.  If you are not on the bus at 4:30 we are leaving without you.

If you are renting equipment, check your school email or Remind for a link that will let you complete the rental agreement now.  Filling this out ahead of time will get you on the slopes faster. (F) – D. Sobek

 

Ethics Bowl is complete and it’s time for a change of pace, Philosophy Club. Join us Friday after school in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for some classic philosophy dilemmas and logic puzzles. Everyone is welcome! (F) – A. Pickering

COUNSELING INFO

 

The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Elizabeth L. Phipps Scholarship Application deadline has been extended to January 25, 2020.  This scholarship is open to all African American female students graduating from ORHS.  Come by the Counseling Office for details on how to apply! A representative from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) will be in the Counseling Office immediately after school on Tuesday, January 28th.  Come by to meet the representative and see if SCAD is the right path for you. ((Tu) – A. Campbell

 

A representative from the University of Alabama will be visiting ORHS immediately after school on Wednesday, January 29th.  Stop by the Counseling Office to meet the representative and learn more about the opportunities offered. (F, Tu, W) – A. Campbell

 

SENIOR INFO

 

February 1, 2020 is the TNPromise FAFSA completion deadline. To remain eligible for the TNPromise Scholarship, seniors MUST complete the 2020-2021 FAFSA between October 1, 2019 – February 1, 2020. Complete the FAFSA at  www.fafsa.gov based on student and parent 2018 tax information. Failure to complete the FAFSA by the deadline of February 1st will result in loss of scholarship eligibility!
