Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Have you registered to vote yet?  If you’re 18 years old and answered no then this is the time to do it!  There are 3 big elections days coming up this year – May 1, August 2, and November 6.  The elections on those dates included Governor, Senator, seats on the Oak Ridge Board of Education and City Council, and many more.  Voting is not only your right, but also your civic duty.  Want to have a say in the direction of your town, state, and country?  Then vote!  To register go to ovr.govote.tn.gov. Are you getting excited for prom? Still not sure what you will wear? The cost of dresses bringing you down? Stop by Ms. Eidam’s room after school on Thursday, March 29, Monday, April 2, or Thursday, April 5 to check out the dresses and beauty products available to you for free! Prom night is every girls’ dream, and we look forward to helping you find the perfect dress and accessories to make your night complete. We hope to see you there! (3/29, 4/2, 4/4) – B. Estep

Prom 2018, Midnight Meadows, ticket pre-orders will be sold to Juniors and Seniors in the kiosk during 5th period lunch on Wed March 28th- Thurs March 29th and Tues April 4th- Fri April 6th.  The cost for pre-orders will be $30 for singles and $60 for couples. Tickets sold the week of Prom, April 24th-26th will increase to $40 for singles and $80 for couples. Tickets WILL NOT BE SOLD on Friday April 27th. The ticket booth will close 10 minutes prior to the end of 5th period to allow for everyone to get to class on time. (4/3, 4/4, 4/6) – S. Eidam

Prom tickets may be purchased by an ORHS Junior or Senior for themselves and a date. A date is defined as two people attending Prom together and is not limited by gender or relationship status. Dates must be under 21, in 9th grade or above and be in good standing with their school or the law. If your date does not currently attend ORHS, then you must get a guest application from Ms. Eidam in LC 313 or Student Services. Please see Ms Eidam if you have any questions. (4/4-4/6) – S. Eidam

The City Youth Advisory Board is hosting a free Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, April 7th at the Civic Center starting at 5pm.  Teams of 6-10 players will compete in this fun, annual event.  There are no co-ed rules this year to make signing up easier.  Forms are available in Student Affairs.  Please visit www.eventbrite.com to register or email Matt Reedy at mreedy@oakridgetn.gov .  Please register by April 5th so that we can create the event schedule.  (4/2 – 4/4) – C. Systers invites the female STEM students of ORHS school to attend Little Systers 2018 on April 14th. This event will inform and inspire high school females about such possibilities for their futures through positive, firsthand experiences. Systers is afforded the opportunity to continue to inspire young women to pursue science, technology, and engineering through Little Systers. This event is limited to 90 student participants, so students should be sure to register soon! This event is free and lunch will be provided. The Soccer Club of Oak Ridge is hosting their local tournament the weekend of April 14th-15th. They are looking for volunteers to help with various duties over that weekend. Please contact them if you need TNPromise Volunteer hours. (4/4, 4/6, 4/10, 4/12) – B. Ottinger

SENIOR INFO

The TN Promise mandatory meeting will be on Thursday, April 5th at 5:30 p.m. in the Wildcat Arena. Please arrive early to your to ensure adequate time to sign in. IF YOU MISS THE TN PROMISE MANDATORY MEETING, YOU MUST ADHERE TO THE POLICY DETAILED IN THE HANDBOOK AND ON THE WEBPAGE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR SCHOLARSHIP. THIS APPLIES TO STUDENTS ON FIELD TRIPS AS WELL. YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR EXCUSE WITHIN 72 HOURS OF THE MISSED MEETING AND YOU MUST ATTEND ANOTHER TN PROMISE MEETING AT ANOTHER AREA HIGH SCHOOL.   (4/4-4/5) – B. Ottinger

Seniors: Convocation is an evening to celebrate your high school career with family, friends, classmates, teachers, and others who have helped you achieve this goal. We want to display your amazing art and ideas for the Convocation program to represent your class. Turn in your ideas by May 8th to Mrs. Bauman in LC 318. Incentives are $50 for the chosen design. Attention Seniors, have you marked your calendar with your TNPromise mandatory meeting date? Have you asked off work and/or arranged transportation for your meeting? Your assigned mandatory meeting is 04/05/2018 in the Oak Ridge High School Wildcat Arena and will begin promptly at 5:30 PM. Remember, failure to attend this meeting will result in the permanent loss of your TN Promise eligibility. Seniors: Each year, members of the Senior Class speak at Convocation and Commencement. Tryouts for these Senior Speeches are held on one day.  Make-ups are not available. This year, tryouts will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 3:15 in CS336. If you think you may be interested in trying out, see Ms. Sasser in CS336 for additional information. The senior slideshow is coming up so dig through those old scrapbooks and baby boxes for all of those adorable elementary and middle school pictures.
