Dear families of Oak Ridge,

I hope this message finds you well and safe. I want to let you know that Oak Ridge Schools will be closing at the end of the day today, Monday, March 16th, due to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee mandating that schools be closed until March 31st.

In an effort to keep buildings virus-free, I am ceasing all access to buildings effective March 16th. This includes the cancelation of all extra-curricular activities, including practices.

No decisions have been made but we may need to use our 10 “snow/emergency” days to potentially extend our school closure beyond the state mandated end date of March 31st. If it comes to this that would mean that the earliest students would report back to school would be Wednesday, April 15th. This decision has not been made yet, but we are planning for this potential closure.

Many, if not all, of you have had questions and are wanting to know more about our plans to offer instruction should we not come back to school after the mandated school closure. Please know that we are planning for the possibility of online learning opportunities for grades 5-12 and creating instructional packets for preK-4. We will provide more details about this at a later time.

Food service personnel are working on a plan to provide meals for children under the age of 18. More information will be made available as soon as possible. This is a very fluid situation, and we will be communicating on a regular basis. We appreciate your understanding and support during this time.

Please stay safe and healthy during this closure.

Dr. Bruce Borchers
