Dear Ram Nation:
I hope you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful summer. While this time of year is traditionally filled with excitement for the start of a new school year, it is understandable that there are probably some mixed emotions, with some anxiety over the uncertainty of our school year, that are infringing on that excitement. As a professional educator and as a parent of a RMS Ram, I certainly can understand and respect the wide range of emotions involved in examining the prospects of a new school year in the modern Covid-19 era. With that being said, we are committed to facing these challenges and doing our very best to ensure that all of our students receive the highest quality education possible.

To that end, the first part of our plan at RMS is to effectively communicate with all stakeholders in the most thorough manner possible. We will be transparent with the steps that we will take to reasonably mitigate risk at RMS, and still function as a middle school with over 700 students. This communication will mainly take the form of our Sunday evening Ram Report calls, Twitter posts @RMSortn, Robertsville Review parent newsletter, and website postings at the RMS homepage. This communication will begin with today’s call and parent letter. It will be followed up by the announcement of the RMS Reopening Safety Plan on Wednesday, July 15. We will be providing information on all of our platforms regarding the policies and protocols that will be in place at RMS to help ensure students’ safety. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our plan upon its release.

One of the steps that we will be taking is to eliminate assemblies and strictly limiting the number of visitors in our building. Thus, we will not be hosting in-person orientation or back to school open house. I am severely disappointed for our newest Rams, but we are committed to help make everyone feel welcome and prepared to start school. We will be posting a virtual tour and orientation for our new students on Friday, July 24. We are working with our counselors to ensure that all of your questions will be answered, and most critically that you know where to go when you come to RMS on your first day! We will also be working to provide a virtual Back to School Night and Ram Talk event for all students.

I would also mention that student schedules will go live in Skyward on Monday, July 27 at 4:00 PM. On the topic of Skyward, if you have not completed your student’s Technology User Agreement in Skyward, please see the following link for instructions and please complete this task as soon as possible, You may also find your student’s school supply list on the link.

In conclusion, I would ask that you please reach out with any questions or concerns that you may have.
Climb the Mountain!
