Brooke Kizzire, an 8th grade student at Robertsville Middle School, has been recognized as a Promising Young Writer by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Only 52 students in the nation, including two in Tennessee, earned the Certificate of Recognition. The Promising Young Writers contest is designed to stimulate and recognize writing talents and emphasize the importance of writing skills among eighth-grade students. Kizzire was nominated by teachers to represent her grade level at RMS and prepared a collection of best work that included a response to the PYW prompt about one’s relationship with nature. Student writings are judged holistically on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development, and style. Kizzire was sponsored by her 8th grade ELA teacher Julie Kinder-McMillan.
