Oak Ridge High School students, staff, and community members gathered on September 11 for the school’s annual memorial ceremony honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Since 2003, ORHS has paused each year to reflect and remember. This year’s program was led by Student Council and NJROTC students, who shared readings, reflections, and music that honored the day’s significance. The ceremony included the playing of “Taps,” the raising of the American flag, and a moment of silence.
Local first responders from the Oak Ridge Fire and Police Departments stood alongside students during the ceremony, reminding all in attendance of the courage and service shown on 9/11 and every day in our community.
For many of today’s students, 9/11 is a moment in history they did not personally experience. Yet through events like this, they show their commitment to remembering the sacrifices made and to carrying forward the values of unity, service, and resilience.
