Parents,

We are pleased to announce that the Oak Ridge Schools will be partnering with the Anderson County Health Department to provide students 12 years and older the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 Vaccine.  The first shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination will be administered on Friday, June 4 and the second vaccine will be provided on Friday, June 25.  Both vaccines will be administered at the Wildcat Arena at Oak Ridge High School at no cost.

The Pfizer vaccine is a two-dose series and is approved for ages 12 and older.  Two weeks after receiving the second dose, persons are considered fully vaccinated.  Being fully vaccinated reduces the risk of disease, hospitalization, and death.  Being vaccinated also protects friends, family, and the community.  Once fully vaccinated, you do not have to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19.  It is important for those 12 and older to be vaccinated to help prevent the spread of the virus in schools, sports, and other extracurricular activities.  Wearing masks, social distancing, and washing hands help reduce the spread, of COVID-19. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is the single most effective tool, to prevent the spread of disease.

Common side effects from the vaccine include pain at the injection site, headache, muscle, or joint pain, fever, and chills.  These side effects typically resolve within 12-24 hours.  Please review the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for specific vaccine information.
