STUDENT INFO

The tradition continues. It’s time for the Senior Shirt Design Contest—the shirt that every senior gets to sign. Please submit your designs for the Class of 2026 Senior Shirt to Mrs. Ledden in Room CS347 by Thursday, September 18. You do not have to be a senior to submit designs for the shirt—open to all grade levels.

Current juniors and seniors may still purchase parking spots through today, Friday August 22nd. Students with completed applications and money may choose from the remaining spots through Mrs. Wagner or Mrs. Gilliland. No spots will be sold after Friday August 22nd

Calling all students! Do you want to help plan prom? Applications for the prom board are now open to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors! Come by Mrs. Royster’s room VA 102, anytime, to pick up an application. Let’s start planning next year’s unforgettable prom together! (If you already picked up and completed an application at the end of the last school year, you do not need to resubmit.)

Every year, WBIR hosts food drive competitions between rival schools. Oak Ridge High School will be competing against Clinton High School next week but we can collect food before then! The most requested food items to donate are Peanut butter, Canned soup, Canned fruit, Canned vegetables, Canned stew, Canned fish, Canned beans, Pasta, and Rice.  Tables are set up in the lobby for donations.

Masquers has three opportunities for you:

First, buy a ticket and plan to come see ORHS Masquers present The Giver by Eric Coble, a powerful stage adaptation of Lois Lowry’s acclaimed novel. Set in a seemingly perfect society without pain, war, or emotion, 12-year-old Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world’s manufactured harmony and must decide whether to accept the status quo or risk everything for freedom and authenticity. $8 pre-sale tickets are now on sale through our cast and crew or online at orhsmasquers.booktix.com

Second, are you a photographer or interested in photography? If so, then Masquers is the place for you! We are looking for photographers of any skill level to take pictures for our shows this season. If you are interested, please contact us at masquers@ortn.edu.

Finally, if you are looking for a performance opportunity, Masquers is sponsoring a Musical Theater Audition Workshop on Friday, September 5, right after school in the Auditorium for anyone interested in auditioning for the Masquers Fall Showcase. This showcase features soloists, instrumentalists, and small and large group musical theatre numbers. Bring any musical theatre song you are interested in performing for the Showcase and come prepared with around 32 measures (about a verse and a chorus, 2 verses, something like that). Our music director, Amy Brock, will be there to work with as many of you as she can and give general advice to all. We will not have an accompanist for the workshop, so try to find a karaoke version to sing with. Scan the QR codes on the Masquers Office window to join our communication groups or email masquers@ortn.edu with questions.

If exploring another country, making lifelong international friends and learning a new language sounds fun to you, then consider a High School Study Abroad Scholarship offered by your local Rotary Club. This scholarship is available for all grade levels. For more information on the study abroad scholarship opportunity, please fill out the contact form at StudyAbroadScholarships.org.
