The Wildcats for Change will be hosting a school wide game night 9/15/21 in the food court.   Bring your favorite board game and money for the food truck and we will see you there!

There are only THREE opportunities left for 10th and 11th graders to register for the PSAT! Students can register and pay on Sept. 8, Sept. 9, and Sept. 14 in the main lobby near the Food Court during lunch. The deadline to register is September 14th. The cost is $18. Students should bring a check in the amount of $18 made out to Oak Ridge High School with the student’s name and PSAT in the subject line. Cash will also be accepted (exact change preferred) but checks are strongly preferred. No refunds are available if you do not take the test. A limited number of exams are available. Please sign-up by the September 14th deadline. No late registrations will be accepted. Full details were emailed to parents and students on August 20th and September 7th. (M,Tu 9.14) B. Ottinger

 

FALL FORMAL – The fall formal will be held on Saturday, September 25th at the DoubleTree Hotel in Oak Ridge from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.  Only ORHS students may attend.  Tickets are $20 and may be purchased during lunch starting Friday, September 10th in the front lobby of the school and will be sold through September 24th.  Get your tickets fast before they sell out!  Tickets will not be sold at the door. The AMC 10 and AMC 12 will both be given on Wednesday November 10th. These exams are the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad. The AMC 10 and 12 are 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics.  This year there will be no charge to take the exam. The deadline for registration is September 17th. Students that register but do not take the exam will be charged $3.  Please see the link in your email to register. If you are enrolled in Early Childhood this semester or spring semester, sign-ups for FCCLA have begun.  Please contact or visit Mrs. Sparks (formally known as Ms. Goodman) or Mrs. Fisher with any questions.  $14 club fees are due by Friday, September 24th. (M, W, F 9.24) – B. Sparks

 

OR is now held in the Library on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.  Students who have been assigned to Operation Restoration but complete the assignment MUST come to OR to show evidence of submission before being released to leave campus.  However,  students completing their assignment and are ready to submit may see Mrs. Thompson in the Main Lobby DURING LUNCH to show their work for submission and be released from OR rather than coming at 3:15.      Students who FAIL to show their submission to an OR Coach or Mrs. Thompson will be counted as skipping OR and receive skipping consequences. The Senior Steering Club will have their next meeting on Tuesday, September 21st right after school at 3:15 in Room CS345. (Tu 9.14) – C. Stalliard

 

Do you want to join a club? Interact is still accepting new members for our community service club. We meet this Monday after school until 4 in the amphitheater.  (M) – A. King

 

The all new ORHS Motorcycle club will meet Tuesday, September 14th during lunch in the bus loop. All students and staff who ride or are interested in motorsports are welcome to join us. If you ride to school, bring your lunch and your bike to the bus loop! Club t-shirts are available and officer positions need to be filled! IRC, Oak Ridge High Schools International Relations Club will meet in LC 318 on Monday, September 13 at 3: 10 – 4:00. Join us to represent a country, debate current International issues and identify solutions to these problems.  Contact Mrs. Bauman or Mr. Shaffer if you have questions.  All interested students are welcome. Seniors interested in joining National Honor Society should pick up an application form in the Media Center by Monday, September 27th in preparation for the Fall Induction opportunity. To qualify for acceptance into NHS, you must have maintained a 3.6 GPA through this first term of your senior year, achieved a good discipline record with the school administration, and participated in extracurricular activities including leadership. COUNSELING INFORMATION

 

The Park Scholarships program provides a four-year scholarship to NC State University awarded on the basis of outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. This scholarship is valued at $208,000 for out-of-state students, including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, travel, and personal expenses. Grants to fund professional and personal enrichment experiences, such as research projects, service activities, and conferences in the United States and abroad. Guaranteed invitation to join the University Scholars Program or University Honors Program for all Park Scholarships Finalists.  The program includes mentoring, retreats, learning labs, etc.  If you are interested in being nominated for this scholarship, turn in your name and a brief statement as to why you should be considered for this opportunity to the Counseling Office no later than October 1st.  (M, W) – A. REMINDER:  The deadline for the P.E.O. Chapter R Scholarships is September 15th.  The three scholarships are:     STAR Scholarship  /     Loretta McCoin Scholarship  / Chapter R Women Advancing Women Scholarship    If interested, please fill out the “PEO Scholarship Interest Form”.

 

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is participating in Tennessee Application Week!  Seniors can all use the code TN2022 anytime from 9/12/21-9/19/21 to waive our normal $30 application fee and apply with us for free at uah.edu/apply. (M,W,F 9.17) A. Campbell
