The Oak Ridge Rotary Club Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest (Merit Based on Essay) and The Rotary Club of Oak Ridge College Founders Scholarship (Need and Merit Based) applications are now open.  Both scholarship applications can be completed online at the East Tennessee Foundation Website.  www.easttennesseefoundation.org/scholarships-grants/scholarships/how-to-apply

Both scholarships will require an in-person interview with a selection committee and award winners will be invited with their families to attend an awards presentation at the Rotary Club of Oak Ridge around graduation time in 2020.  Deadline for applications is February 15, 2020.  Award amounts have not yet been finalized, but should be similar to what was awarded last year (up to $6,600 for the College Founders Scholarship and up to $5,200 for the Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest).  We typically give out multiple awards for each scholarship, so scholarship amounts per person usually end up a little over 2k, with a minimum award of 1k.  Finally, the Brad Sturm Memorial Essay Contest requires a book to be purchased for the essay, so for those students unable to purchase the book off Amazon, two copies of this book will be available for check out in the counseling office. Mrs. Bauman’s economics class will also be provided two copies of the book.  We will be using the same book from last year…….A Capitalist Manifesto:  Understanding the Market Economy and Defending Liberty by Gary Wolfram.  (W – 11/20-12/20) – A. King
