ACT Prep: If you took the practice math and science tests on August 28, come to the Amphitheatre on Wednesday, September 18, to look at how you can improve your scores and open more doors. Dr. Thomas and Ms. Hondorf will  focuson science from 3:00-3:30, and Dr. Vaughn will focus on math from 3:30-4:00. You’ll want to get to the Amphitheatre a little early so you can pick up your scored answer sheets and a copy of the test. (Tu) – A. Etheridge

CLUB INFO

 

Every Wednesday, Masquers hosts an Actors Workshop.  This is for all ORHS students whether they are involved with Masquers or not.  The goal is to sharpen your skills for the upcoming auditions for THE LITTLE MERMAID in December.  The Workshop is every Wednesday from 2-3:30 in Ms. Ragan’s room.  The workshop is taught by a professional actor and director, Amy Uptgraft, a new member of the Masquers Community Team. (9/9-9/30, MT) – V. Do you want to win breakfast for your class? Do you enjoy food? Well if so this contest is for you. Student Council is hosting a pep video contest. This contest is a way for you and your class to show off some school spirit and win some food. The contest is open to all class periods. Videos should range from 30 seconds to a minute and must be submitted in MP4 format. Take advantage of this opportunity to boost homecoming spirit as we take on the Clinton Dragons on September 27th. (9/17-9/20) – A. Wagner

COUNSELING INFO

 

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. announces is International High School Essay Contest. Four college scholarship awards will be awarded: 1st Scholarship: $5,000; 2nd Scholarship: $3,000; 3rd Scholarship: $2,000; 4th Scholarship: $1,000. All submissions will be reviewed by the local Chapter and submissions will not be accepted after October 18, 2019  Information on essay topic and submission requriements can be found on the Counseling OfficeScholarship website. DAVIDSON COLLEGE – announces the John M. Belk Scholarship for seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and enthusiasm, integrity, and leadership ability and potential.  This is a four-year scholarship covering tuition, fees,room and board – valued at $67,794 in 2019-2020.  If you would like to be one of the two students that Oak Ridge High School can nominate for the John M. Belk Scholarship, please submit a resume and personal statement to Ms. Redman in the School Counselingoffice by Wednesday, October 16.  (F, Tu, Th 9.18) – A. Campbell

DAVIDSON COLLEGE – announces the Lowell L. Bryan Scholarship for top senior Scholar Athletes who are strong performers in the classroom and impact players at the NCAA D-1 level in one of the 18 eligible sports.  This scholarship will provide two four-year scholarships – one for a woman and one for a man valued at $30,000 a year each.   If you would like to be one of three seniors nominated for the Bryan Scholarship by Oak Ridge High School, please submit a resume and personal statement to Ms. Redman in the School Counseling office by Wednesday, September 18.  (9/11-9/18 T/Th) – A. The Saturday, October 26th ACT registration deadline is THIS Friday, September 20th!!!! If you need a fee waiver to register for this test, see Mrs. Rowland in the School Counseling Office ASAP!  This is NOT the ACT Senior Re-take that will be held on Tuesday, October 29th during school so do not be confused.

However, seniors that wish to take both tests within three days of each other could see their ACT composite score go up so that is something to consider. If you need previously approved accommodations for the Saturday, October 26th test date, you must let Mrs. Rowland know by this Thursday. (9/17-9/18) – K. Rowland

Saturday, September 21st, Roane State (Oak Ridge campus) will be hosting an HBCU Expo from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students from 7th-12th grades can attend along with parents/guardians. https://form.jotform.com/92465122842153 is the link to sign up for this event. Sessions will include on-the-spot scholarships, ACT and SAT Prep Strategies, Financial Aid and Independence, and Staying safe on college campuses.
