STUDENT INFO

The ASVAB Test will be administered @ Oak Ridge High School on Thursday, September 19, 2019 @ 8:00 a.m. in the Amphitheater. The ASVAB Career Exploration Program can help you take steps now toward finding a career that’s right for you. You can benefit from the Program whether you plan to pursue further education right after high school or enter the workforce right away. The programis designed to help you:  learn more about yourself and the world or work, explore occupations in line with your interests and skills, and develop an effective strategy to realize your career goals. The Driving Center is again offering Driver Education class over Fall Break. Please visit our website  www.thedrivingcenter.org for more information reguarding class times and length.  (M.W – 9.25) T. Seals

 

Picture retakes for ALL grades, including seniors, will be Wednesday Sept. 11 from 10:30-3:30. Students may come to the auditorium during lunch or between classes or during guided studies to have their photos made. Photographers will also be available after school.  (W-F, M-T) – R. Byrd

If you were one of the 71 students who took the ACT Math and Science practice test last week, you may stop by Coach Etheridge’s room (CS336) to pick up your scores before school or during lunch. You’ll want to keep those for the September 18 session when we look at how you could score higher. (9/9-9/10) – A. Etheridge

 

 

CLUB INFO

 

The Interact club will meet Monday, sept 9, in the amphitheater after school until 4pm. This is a great club if you’re interested in serving the community!

 

Teens 4 contact will meet Tuesday, Sept 10 in the college and career room right after school until 4pm. Come join us if you want to be a better friend and improve your listening skills!  (9/5-9) – A. King

 

Students remember that IRC meets every Thursday in LC  327 at 3:10 until 4:00.  We have snacks and a simulation ready to go for this week.  If you are interested in world events, the resolution of world conflict, and debating solutions, Join US!  Mr. Shafford & Mrs. Bauman will be glad to answer any questions concerning the club.  (9/5, 9/9) – B. Student Council will hold elections tomorrow to narrow down ten senior boys and ten senior girls to the Homecoming Court. Five boys and five girls will represent the class during Spirit Week, Sept 23-27th. Voting will be open 7am-4pm on Skyward, and only seniors can vote in this round. Final voting for the King and Queen will be on Sept 27th for all students. (9/9) – A. Wagner

 

Every Wednesday, Masquers hosts an Actors Workshop.  This is for all ORHS students whether they are involved with Masquers or not.  The goal is to sharpen your skills for the upcoming auditions for THE LITTLE MERMAID in December.  The Workshop is every Wednesday from 2-3:30 in Ms. Ragan’s room.  The workshop is taught by a professional actor and director, Amy Uptgraft, a new member of the Masquers Community Team. (9/9-9/30, MT) – V. Golden Door Scholars is a nonprofit scholarship organization which provides large college scholarships to high performing students with DACA. This year we are excited to announce that we will award the scholarship to up to 50 students across the country attending college in Fall 2020 who are interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Historically Black Colleges & Universities Exposition – Saturday, September 21, 9am-3pm at Roane State Community College, Oak Ridge Campus – GOFF Building.  Featuring On-The-Spot Scholarships, ACT Prep and Strategies, Job and Military Recruiters, food and more!  Register online by September 16.  You can find the link to register on the ORHS Counseling Office Scholarship Website. SENIOR INFO

 

Seniors: mark your calendars—Wednesday, September 11! The senior signing party for the 2020 senior signature shirt will be immediately after the senior class picture on Wednesday, September 11, in the Arena. In addition, Jostens will be handing out your packets to order graduation supplies. The first two order dates for graduation supplies will be September 17 and October 17. So on Wednesday, September 11—senior class picture, sign the board for the senior shirt, and get your graduation supplies packet! (9/3.4.6.9)  T. Ledden

 

SENIOR SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST:  Please submit your designsfor the Class of 2020 Senior Shirt to Mrs. Ledden in Room CS347 by Wednesday, September 18. You do not have to be a senior to submit designs for the shirt—open to all grade levels.

We need a front design and a back design.  Each of these designs is a separate “contest”.  Prizes for each contest are as follows:  Front – $25; Back – $25.

Be sure to incorporate ORHS, Seniors, and Class of 2020 into your drawings.  Place your name and homeroom teacher’s name on the back of each design entry.  Entries must be original work and if selected, will become the property of Oak Ridge High School.
