Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

Don’t wait in line at the next home athletic event – AND SAVE more than $100 by purchasing an All-Sports Athletic Pass for $55.00. This pass will grant admission to all home games for ALL sports! The exception would be TSSAA hosted playoff games. Passes can be purchased at any time in the Main Office from Mrs. Seals. (Tu, Th)  – T. Seals

 

Picture retakes for ALL grades, including seniors, will be Wednesday Sept. 11 from 10:30-3:30. Students may come to the auditorium during lunch or between classes or during guided studies to have their photos made. Photographers will also be available after school.  (W-F, M-T) – R. Byrd

 

NHS Tutoring—Zane Accawi and Mikilaj Jakowski will be in the College and Career Room of the Counseling Center from 3:15-3:50 on Thursday, September 5, waiting for you to come talk school. Math, science, Major Author, Senter logs—nothing is off the table. (Th) – A. Etheridge

 

We continue our fall ACT Prep series with English and Reading practice tests on Wednesday, September 25, in the Amphitheatre, beginning at 2:00 PM sharp. If you take this practice test you’ll want to return on Wednesday, October 16,  to analyze your results and learn how to answer the questions you missed. Please sign up by emailing Coach Etheridge (AEtheridge@ORTN.edu)  by Monday, September 23, to reserve a seat in the Amphitheater. If you have any questions, please see Coach Etheridge in CS 336. Jostens will distribute class ring packets in the Main Lobby during lunch on Wednesday, September 11. Any student, regardless of grade, may purchase a class ring. Orders will be taken September 17 and October 17. A $60 deposit is required. (9/5-9/6) – T. Ledden

CLUB INFO

 

Would you like to help plan Prom 2020?  Come to the Prom Board interest meeting during 5th period in LC 313 on Thursday Sept 5th.  We will answer questions like what exactly is Prom Board and what do we do?  What are the responsibilities of a Prom Board member? When does Prom Board meet? and How do I join Prom Board? If you cannot make the meeting or are a returning Prom Board member stop by LC 313 to pick up a petition and have any questions answered. Remember all petitions must be turned in to Ms. Eidam no later than September 12th. (Th) – S. Eidam

 

Primary elections for the Homecoming Court will take place on Thursday, September 5th. Seniors, please nominate one senior boy and one senior girl to be on this year’s Homecoming Court! The vote will be on Skyward and will be open from 7am to 4pm this Thursday.  (9/4-9/5) – A. Wagner

 

Pastor Derrick Hammond of Oak Valley Baptist Church will give the devotional talk at Fellowship of Christian Athletes this Friday morning, the 6th, at 7:05 AM at Providence House across the street from the Wildcat Arena parking lot.  All students (not just athletes!) are welcome for a Christian message and some breakfast treats.  FCA meets every Friday at Providence House at 7:05. Join Philosophy Club after school on Friday in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for a discussion on environmental ethics. (Th, F) – A. Pickering

 

The Interact club will meet Monday, sept 9, in the amphitheater after school until 4pm. This is a great club if you’re interested in serving the community!

 

Teens 4 contact will meet Tuesday, Sept 10 in the college and career room right after school until 4pm. Come join us if you want to be a better friend and improve your listening skills!  (9/5-9) – A. King

 

Students remember that IRC meets every Thursday in LC  327 at 3:10 until 4:00.  We have snacks and a simulation ready to go for this week.  If you are interested in world events, the resolution of world conflict, and debating solutions, Join US!  Mr. Shafford & Mrs. Bauman will be glad to answer any questions concerning the club.  (9/5, 9/9) – B. COUNSELING INFO

 

21st CCLC is looking for students to serve as math tutors. If you are interested in working with Willow Brook students from 4-6 pm a couple days a week, please apply as a substitute for the Oak Ridge School district and meet with Tina Marascia at Willow Brook. Students interested in meeting with college admissions counselors from Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, UPenn and Stanford are invited to attend their evening meeting on Sunday, September 8th at 7:00p.m at Hotel Knoxville. JEFFERSON SCHOLARS FOUNDATION  – The University of Virginia is now accepting nominations for the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.  If you would like to be nominated by ORHS for this scholarship program, please submit a resume and a personalstatement as to why you should be a nominee for this program to Ms. Redman in the School Counseling office by Monday, November 4, 2019. SENIOR INFO

 

SENIOR SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST:  Please submit your designsfor the Class of 2020 Senior Shirt to Mrs. Ledden in Room CS347 by Wednesday, September 18. You do not have to be a senior to submit designs for the shirt—open to all grade levels.

We need a front design and a back design.  Each of these designs is a separate “contest”.  Prizes for each contest are as follows:  Front – $25; Back – $25.

Be sure to incorporate ORHS, Seniors, and Class of 2020 into your drawings.  Place your name and homeroom teacher’s name on the back of each design entry.  Entries must be original work and if selected, will become the property of Oak Ridge High School. (Selection committee reserves the right to combine two or more designs in which case each person will receive prize money.)  (9/3,5,9,12,16) T. Ledden

 

Seniors: don’t forget to go register for our September 23rd College Fair at www.gotocollegefairs.com. You will register as the student and create an account. You will have to look for the Tennessee College Fair dates that our 9/23 date falls within and once there, you can select our school. They have them grouped by weeks instead of by school this year. Once you register, print your bar code and bring it to the College Fair with you for the colleges to scan to get you into their database.  (W/Th) – K. Rowland
