Oak Ridge High School Daily Bulletin

STUDENT INFO

ORHS Football program is looking for students to film games on Monday & Friday nights and also some of the practice sessions.  If interested, please contact Coach Gaddis.  (W-F)  B. Saunders

 

Travel to Germany in the summer of 2020 and make a lifelong friend across the pond.  Live with them, go to school with them, travel with them, and chill with them.  Immerse yourself in German culture 24/7 for three weeks.  Come to our first GAPP 2020 meeting on Monday August 12 at 6pm in room CS 301.  If you do not want to leave Oak Ridge but still want to have the cultural experience you may want to host a German while they visit the states!  Everyone is welcome!  Questions?  See Frau Nebenfuehr or Mr. Kolodney. Would you like to spend 13 days in 5 different countries in Europe in June?  Would you like to visit the smallest country in the World along with the largest country in Western Europe?  If you are interested, come to the meeting for the Mediterranean Cultures trip on Thursday, August 15th at 6:30 in the ORHS Amphitheater and bring a parent.  See Madame Bailey, Señor Gonzalez, Ms Toler or Mr. Pickering if you have questions, or for more information.   (Tu) – L. CLUB INFO

 

The first meeting of the National Honor Society will be on Monday, August 19, after school at 3:15 in LC327. Plan to stay for around thirty minutes while we organize tutoring and other service opportunities for the year. All members are expected to attend.(M) – K. Senter

 

The ORHS Math Club will meet in Mrs. Mullins’ room, CS231 Friday, Aug.9 immediately after school.  The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers for the 2019-20 school year.  Past officers will be present to give officer descriptionsto the new members and help run the election.  If you are interested in a club that will offer fun, challenging math opportunities, please come to this first meeting.  (F) – K. Is ignorance bliss? Or is an examined life worth living? What is philosophy? Join us Friday after school for an hour or so in Mr. Pickering’s room (LC322) for the first Philosophy Club discussion of the year. New members are welcome! (F) – A. Pickering

 

 

 

The Key Club will meet on Monday, August 12 after school in Mr. Schoolcraft’s room, LC224. Be prepared to discuss ideas!  (W,F,M) – J. Schoolcraft

 

The YuGi-Oh! Club will meet on Fridays in Dr. Colquitt’s room, CS 235, after school until 6 pm. If you know how to play, bring them and be ready to duel. If you don’t know how to play, club members will teach you how to play. This club is open to all students. See you then!  (Th-F)

 

 

COUNSELING INFO

 

SENIOR females: The STAR Scholarship is now available to apply for and the application is in the Counseling Office with Mrs. Rowland.

 

Attention all Sophomores and Juniors:  PSAT/NMSQT® Registration has started! The PSAT is a Practice SAT for 10th and 11th graders andthe National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for 11th graders only.  This is an optional test, but students are encouraged to participate. The 2019 PSAT/NMSQT test date will be Wednesday, October 16th and the test will be given at ORHS during the school day. The cost is $17. (MWF – 8.20)

Registration will be held at the following times:

Thursday evening, August 8th during Open House

Tuesday, August 11th during lunch on the top level of Food Court closest to the staircase

Thursday, August 15th during lunch on the top level of Food Court closest to the staircase

Tuesday, August 20th during lunch on the top level of Food Court closest to the staircase

 

SENIOR INFO

 

There are only 4 Senior T-shirts for the class of 2020 remaining. We will be collecting orders with money for a reprint today at open house and in LC210 (Mrs. Hondorf’s room). We will place the re-order on Fridayat lunch. Last chance to get one of these super soft class T-shirts. Be proud Seniors! You’ve earned it! (F) – B. Hondorf

 

SENIORS: The deadline is next Friday, August 16th for the  Saturday, September 14th ACT test.

You must go to  www.actstudent.org to create an account for the Saturday national test dates (if you’ve never taken the test on one of the national test dates). If you qualified for accommodations last year, please let Mrs. Rowland know BEFORE August 16th torequest those for you again.

As a reminder, taking the ACT is a graduation requirement in the state of Tennessee. If you did not take it last year and/or are a new transfer senior from out of state, you will need to take the ACT prior to graduation. If you need afee waiver, also see Mrs. Rowland for the waiver prior to August 16th. (Th) – KRowland
