Women in STEM Study.com Scholarship A $500 award will be given to a female student pursuing any associate’s or bachelor’s degree program emphasizing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics). Women are historically underrepresented in STEM professions, and Study.com wishes to promote more interest and opportunity for women in these fields of study. Areas of study that will be considered include science, technology, engineering, mathematics, engineering technology, and computer science, among others. (Deadline: April 1, 2018)
Women in Science Study.com Scholarship A $500 award will be given to a female student pursuing any associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in science, biology, physical science, social science, chemistry, or physics. Study.com hopes to promote both educational opportunities and achievement for women in science. An emphasis on academic success will be used to select the scholarship winner. Women in Engineering Study.com Scholarship:A $500 award will be given to a female student pursuing any associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in an engineering related field of study. Study.com wants to assist in furthering the educational opportunities of women in engineering. SeniorAdvisor.comFuture of Assisted Living Scholarship Three $2,000 scholarships available to students enrolled in an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree or graduate level program at an accredited 2-year college or 4-year university. Each eligible student must submit a 500-750 word essay response to the question: How can your major of study improve the lives of seniors in assisted living facilities in your town? Deadline is December 31, 2017. Scholarship award recipients will be announced January 31, 2018.

Stop Texting & Driving Scholarship The law firm of Raybin & Weissman offer an annual scholarship contest to Stop Texting and Driving. High school juniors, seniors, and full-time college students will create videos that help in the fight against distracted driving and needless car accident injuries. A total of three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded: one to the best video entry from Davidson County (TN), one to the best entry from the state of TN, and one to the best entry from the entire US. Wendy’s High School Heisman Once again, Wendy’s® High School Heisman® is awarding a total of $150,000 in scholarships to the nation’s most accomplished scholar-athletes. With winners from every school, 100 State Winners, 10 National Finalists, and 2 National Winners, graduating seniors have lots of ways to join the ranks of more than 600,000 past winners—including several of our school’s very own. The American Legion Oratorical Contest By writing and presenting an original speech focusing on the United States Constitution, the competitors can “earn” needed education money and develop a deep appreciation and knowledge of our country’s guiding document. The student who wins the 2018 State Contest will advance the National Contest with a chance to win $18,000, $16,000 or $14,000 in Scholarships. Deadline: January 9th, 2018

The Levine Scholars Program (UNC Charlotte)
The program seeks outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate evidence of experience, motivation and commitment toward the ideals of the Levine Scholars Program. Requirements include:

  • Students must be applicants for freshman enrollment at UNC Charlotte in a baccalaureate program for the fall term immediately following their high school graduation. Students must be admitted to UNC Charlotte to receive a Levine Scholarship.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Students must demonstrate a commitment to community service, hold an academic record that reflects a sustained passion for knowledge, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership that elevates fellow students to a higher standard.
  • While there are no minimum SAT, ACT or grade point averages to apply for the Levine Scholarship, students must excel academically and show evidence of experience, motivation and commitment toward the ideals of the program.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards The Scholastic Awards partners with organizations to offer students Special Awards: special opportunities to receive additional scholarships for works in certain categories or dealing with particular themes.
William H. and Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University: We seek candidates for the Danforth Scholars program who have exhibited leadership in service, as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. We are especially interested in students who exhibit qualities that embody the essence of the Danforths – Maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, a passion for helping others, and a commitment to the community. Park Scholarships – NC State University – Candidates must apply for admission to NC State and must also complete the Park Scholarships application – which is housed in the NC State’s wolfPAW system – by October 15 of their senior year. To access the Park Scholarships application, candidates must either be endorsed by their high schools by October 1 or must self -endorse. To be eligible for the Park Scholarships, candidates must be United States citizens or permanent residents and be applying for fall, first-year admission into a baccalaureate program at NC State. DKG Scholarship- Our local chapter of DKG awards an annual $1,000 scholarship to a female senior student that is interested in education. Please stop by the Counseling Office for a copy of the application or email Mrs. Morris (amorris@ortn.edu) or Ms. Mullins (Kmullins@ortn.edu) to receive an electronic application. Deadline to apply is May 16th.
Ron Brown Scholar Program – The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify students who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excell academically, show exceptional leadership potential and make an impact on their communities through service to others.
Each year, 20 or more students are designated Ron Brown Scholars and receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the need and merit-based scholarships to attend any four-year accredited college/university within the United States. Ron Brown scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue ant academic discipline.
To be eligible, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, Black/African American and current High School Seniors at the time of their application. Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement, exhibit leadership ability, participate in community service activities and have demonstrated financial need. Application Deadline: The Ron Brown Scholar Program currently has two deadlines for applications: November 1 (postmarked)- application will be given early consideration for the Ron Brown Scholar Program. American University – School of Communication – Summer 2018 Discover the world of Communication! American University offers high school students an extraordinary opportunity to explore the field of communication in a dynamic university setting through the Discover the World of Communication summer program in Washington, D.C. Students have the opportunity to script, shoot and edit a film, documentary or a public service announcement campaign. They may also choose to build a portfolio of masterful photographs, broadcast sports from the press box, write compelling news stories or develop their voice through flash fiction writing. Students may register for two or four week session, and live on campus or commute locally. These hands-on experiential workshops run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each evening and on weekends, the students living on campus explore Washington, D.C. guided by our personally selected program and teaching assistants.
