Jefferson Middle School Principal, Phil Cox was inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame last week. Mr. Cox was a two-time all-state selection, averaging 35.3 points a game as a junior and 28.7 as a senior in earning the 1981 Kentucky Mr. Basketball award. He led his high school team to the 52nd District title that season. He completed his high school career by leading the Kentucky All-Stars against Indiana in the annual two-game summer series.

Cox continued his basketball career at Vanderbilt University, scoring 30 points against Duke in his first game. In an era before the 3-point shot, Cox averaged in double figures all four years of his Vandy career, leaving the school in 1985 as its all-time leading scorer (1,724 career points). He is now fourth on the all-time list.
