The answer to Friday’s Black History Trivia Question is Fred Brown. He is the native of Alcoa, TN who taught at Scarboro School and Oak Ridge High School, and has a building named in his honor at the University of Tennessee? Today’s question is: Ronald McNair was the 2nd African-American astronaut to orbit the Earth. He was also an accomplished musician. What instrument did he play? Write your answer, along with your name, on a sheet of paper and bring it to Dr. Colquitt’s room, CS 235, by the end of 5th period today. (2/20) – R. Colquitt

49 years ago, Shirley Chisholm became the first black woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives, where she served for 14 years, representing the people of New York’s 12th District. In 1972 she became the first black candidate to run for a major party’s presidential nomination. In 2008, the junior senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, became the first black candidate to be elected President of the United States. Even though Chisholm lost, her efforts inspired countless other people of color to enter politics. Who will inspire the next generation? The second installment of AP Exam fees is due the week of February 20th. Students may make payments in the main lobby before and after school and at lunch Monday, February 20th through Wednesday, February 22nd. If you have changed your mind or forgot to register the first time, it’s not too late. We will continue to take registrations through February 22nd. (2/20-2/22) – A. Henry

Reminder to students that in order to drive to school you must have a 2016-2017 car tag hanging in your car. Students are not allowed to park in staff parking which there is a parking lot on Providence side located by the portables is for staff only. The parking lot behind the food court is Staff only. Pre-orders for tickets for Prom 2018, A Night in Wonderland, will go on sale Monday March 6th-Friday March 10th in the Arena Kiosk during lunch. The cost for pre-orders is $30 for singles and $60 for couples. If you wait until the week of prom, the tickets will increase to $40 for singles and $80 for couples.
