Professional Experience: Dr. Bailey is in his eighth year as Superintendent of Oak Ridge Schools. Prior to coming to Oak Ridge he served eight years as Director of Secondary Education with Henrico County Public Schools in Virginia. He served the students in Hampton, Virginia as a teacher, a coach, a high school assistant principal, a junior high school principal and a high school principal. Education: Dr. Bailey earned his Doctorate of Education and Educational Specialists degrees from The College of William and Mary, his Masters of Education degree in Secondary Administration from Hampton University, and his Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University. Other Professional Experience: Dr. Bailey is a 2003 graduate of the Oak Ridge Leadership Program, served a three term on the State of Tennessee Board of Examiners for the approval of professional education units and teacher education programs at Tennessee’s teacher education institutions, trained at the Federal Emergency Management Association for National Emergencies, completed Gates Leadership Training at Vanderbilt University and participated in numerous workshops related to using Technology to enhance learning. Presentations: Dr. Bailey has recently presented at the Tennessee School Board Association conference on the topics” Designing a School for the 21st Century, and “Building the Classroom of the Future”, at the Council of Educational Facility Planners International on the topic of: “Engaged Conversations with Learners”, and at the Association of School Business Officials International Conference on the topic: “Modernizing a Traditional High School for the 21st Century. Community/ Professional Organizations: Dr. Bailey is serving as the current President of the Association of Independent and Municipal Schools representing 98 Tennessee School Systems, serves on the Oak Ridge United Way Board, serves as the Vice President of Membership on the Executive Board to the Great Smoky Mountain Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Bailey holds memberships in the Tennessee School Board Association, the National School Board Association, the American Association of School Administrators, the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents, the Association of Independent and Municipal Schools, and the American Association of Curriculum Development.
